Scatter™ Phase History Simulator

Vexcel’s Phase History Simulator, Scatter™, is designed to simulate the raw phase history data of a spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radar System. Data produced from Scatter may be ingested directly into the 3DSAR SAR processor, Focus™, or any other CEOS-compatible SAR processor. Scatter™ can simulate StripMap, ScanSAR, Spotlight, Polarimetric, and Interferometric data.

Scatter™ can be used to simulate the SAR image and the phase history data of a scene containing distributed targets for existing sensors ERS-1/ERS-2, JERS, RADARSAT 1, ENVISAT-ASAR, or other user-designed sensors. The scene can include land specified with a DEM and a land type map, and a dynamic ocean specified by a sea state.

The image was processed from Scatter-simulated SAR data. A digital elevation model of terrain with a uniform scattering surface was used to define the land returns, while the ocean areas were represented by a heavy sea. The inset image shows a close-up of the target ship response.

Scatter™ is designed to simulate large-scale data as well as detailed targets within a scene. It is equipped with a user-friendly graphic user interface (GUI). The DEM editor of Scatter™ can ingest DEMs with various projections and resolutions, mosaicked DEMs, or simulate a flat DEM. The Land Type Editor allows user to segment land into regions with different dielectric or scattering properties. The Target Editor accepts 3D CAD models produced from MicroStation CAD software.
